At Sutton Young we’ve been creating beautiful designs for a number of New Zealand’s biggest brands since 2003. In this blog post series, our four expert designers look into a crystal ball and predict what will be graphic design’s hottest styles in 2018.
Our first post looks at a key trend in typography – alternative structure. This style – which includes type on path, repetition, left/right + up/down – is one 2017 trend we think is sure to stay in 2018. It complements the overall trend towards chaos and disorganisation, and surprisingly, when done well, brings stability, order and symmetry plus it’s very easy to read. Alternative structure works for most types of communications, in particular fun, poster-like advertisements for vibrant brands as well as feature pages in corporate documents such as annual reports.
